The ImaginAging project is the outcome of two seed-funds that supported the beginnings of this project in 2018. For more information on the inception of the project, check out the original site.
In brief, ImaginAging was incepted to bring the speculative design methodology to problem solving on the ground. We started by working around issues pertinent to gerontology and the science of ageing, and have since moved on to tackle broader issues while always returning to the source material that have allowed us to concept-test the methodology.
Since then, ImaginAging has spin off into two separate, yet inter-related projects, the first being "A-S/S-A : Art-Science Approaches to Knowledge generation in Sustainable Futures" and the AHRC-funded "Protopolicy Asia."
A-S/S-A is focused more on developing and prototyping outcomes as part of a making-and-doing process that will feed into critical theorization about the synthesis of art-science while Protopolicy Asia is more focussed in how to bring speculative design as a participatory-collaborative tool in policy-making. That said, both are novel and unprecedented in Malaysia, and also unique projects within Southeast Asia. The motivation behind both projects would be to create indigenous knowledge that would also feed into the conception of speculative design, and how that could be deployed across sectors.
ImaginAging will remain as a repository for all projects that have spun out of the initial idea, as well as serve as a showcase for prototypes that are going through multiple phases of its developmental and concept-testing stages, as well as all the other outcomes with potential social impact.
